This is so fun! I like the 2 holer toilet idea! I have been wanting an outside restroom so I didn't have to come dragging dirt in the house when I have been working in the yard and garden. Isn't either of those, though.
Ok, I got it! I found the picture on ................do you want me to spoil it for everyone else or not? I'll send you a private message with my answer.....
No, LInda, it wasn't the holes left from sweet potato vines, but that is the closest guess yet! You all keep the guesses coming! I will give you about 2 more hours, (around 9 to9:30 CDT), then I will post the answer.
I have no idea....I can see all the layers in it almost like a hold in a tree but I see leaves down in the hole too it looks like so ....no idea. I can't wait to hear what it is.
AND THE ANSWER IS . . . . It is a sinkhole, from an old, rotted out tree stump that was hidden under my driveway! I was sitting in my little chair the other day, taking a break from yard work, when all of a sudden, one of my chair legs just sunk way down into the ground. I jumped up before I fell in! There was a little hole there, and I stuck my hand in, but could not touch bottom. I pulled a little dirt back and could see a big hole. I used my narrow spade and popped the top of the ground off, and this is what I saw, along with several more of these tunnel looking things. Some of the "tunnels" went so deep, I couldn't even see the bottom of them. Apparently, there had been a tree there when my house was built, and it was cut down, covered over with a gravel driveway, and left to rot. As the last of the roots rotted away, a big hole, with these cool tunnels branching off was left. The hole was pretty big across, just under the surface of my driveway. If I had pulled my car all the way up in the driveway, my tire would have sunk all the way down into the hole! Since I live in the woods, it makes me wonder how many more there are of these under my house! I don't think this is how the contractors were supposed to do things.
Talya, the spring part might not have been too far off, either. Although this was a hole made by a rotted out tree stump, I do live where there are MANY underground springs, and they could have contributed to making this hole and the root cavities as big as they are.
Looks like a cave of sorts, but I have a feeling I am going to be wrong :(
ReplyDeleteClose, but not quite. I will reveal what it is at the end of the day what it is if no one gets it right by then. Thank you for your comment and guess!
DeleteOpening to a yellow jackets nest? Do you even have those nasty insects where you live?
DeleteYes, we have those horrible things here, but NO, that wasn't it. Great guess, though!
Deletelooks like the beginning of a 2 holer out door toilet..lol
ReplyDeleteYellow jacket nest....2 holer toilet......do NOT mix!!! ;)

DeleteVery cool pic! I read your comment that it was a sinkhole. I was thinking a hole with an underground spring.
